We are an independent charity that raises and manages money for clinical research and healthcare projects at the five hospitals making up Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust ("NHS Trust") in London: Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and Western Eye hospitals. Excellent patient care lies at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation through the projects, research and studies that we fund, so that patients can continue to be given the best healthcare service at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and across the broader NHS.
Our Grants Programme
Applications can be submitted by members of Trust staff under the following grant schemes:
Dresden Hardship Fund - up to £2,000 per application
Funding is available to support patients and families in critical need during their time in hospital. Funding requests need to be submitted by a member of on behalf of a patient currently receiving treatment at one of the Trust’s five hospitals.Applications are accepted year-round with no formal deadlines.

Research Fellowships - circa £65,000 per application
Funding is available to both medics and non-medics looking to undertake a period of pre-doctoral or post-doctoral research for one year. The Fellowship provides funding for an individual Fellow's salary for 12 months and related research expenses. We are now lifting the cap to be able to support the full cost of an individual’s salary (dependent on salary requirements) and related research expenses up to £65,000. If your salary will not be covered within this amount, please contact the office before starting an application. Applications for the 2019/20 round will open on 01 October 2018 and close 31 January 2019. The funding call opens annually.

Small Grants Fund - up to £5,000 per application
Funding is available for bright ideas that aim to improve the patient experience in wards, departments or across the Trust, and also towards staff amenities where appropriate. Applications are accepted year-round with the application window of 1 April to 28 February. Decision notification time frames are on a sliding scale depending on the amount requested as follows:
- Under £2,000 within 2 weeks
- £2,000-£10,000 quarterly (following financial year - April to March) Please note: if applications are submitted close to a decision meeting date, they will be decided at the next meeting.
From January 2019 you must first complete a Pre-application Advice form before beginning an online application. This can be downloaded here.
This will enable the Grants team to decide if you should be applying to the Small Grants Fund or to a different Charity funding stream. Once you have received our written permisson to apply to the Small Grants Fund, you can proceed with your online application.
