Our vision

We are an independent charity that raises and manages money for clinical research and healthcare projects at the five hospitals making up Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust ("NHS Trust") in London: Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and Western Eye hospitals. Excellent patient care lies at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation through the projects, research and studies that we fund, so that patients can continue to be given the best healthcare service at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and across the broader NHS.


Our Grants Programme

Applications can be submitted by members of Trust staff under the following grant schemes:

Imperial Health Charity is passionate about improving patient care and supporting staff development at the five London hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

 

Dresden Hardship Fund - up to £1,500 per application

Funding is available to support patients and families in critical need during their time in hospital. Funding requests need to be submitted by a member of on behalf of a patient currently receiving treatment at one of the Trust’s five hospitals.

Applications are accepted year-round with no formal deadlines.

Due to capacity within the Grants team from 1st - 24th June 2019, Dresden Hardship Fund applications will be assessed within 3 working days (from the normal 2 working days). Applications will also not be assessed from 6th to 7th June 2019.


Small Grants Fund - up to £5,000

Before you apply to the Small Grants Fund, we advise you to first complete a Pre-application Advice form. This can be downloaded here. This will enable the Grants team to decide if you should be applying to the Fund or to a different Charity funding programme. Once you have received our permission in writing to apply to the Fund, you can proceed with your online application.

Funding is available for bright ideas that aim to improve the patient experience in wards, departments or across the Trust, and towards staff amenities where appropriate. Applications are accepted year-round. Applications below £2,000 will be assessed within two weeks; applications between £2,000 and £10,000 will be assessed quarterly in a financial year. The closing date of the final round for this financial year is 15th February 2019.

 

Research Fellowships - up to £65,000 per application

The Research Fellowship programme for the 2019/2020 cohort is now closed. Applications for the 2020/2021 cohort will open from Tuesday 1 October 2019 and close at noon on Friday 17 January 2020.

Funding is available to medics and non-medics to undertake a period of pre-doctoral research for one year. Applicants must hold an NHS employment contract noting they must currently deliver services, and plan to undertake their proposed research project, for the benefit of patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and/or surrounding communities. The funding call opens annually. 

 

Special Purpose Funds

The charity oversees 400 donor-gifted funds each with a specific purpose to support a particular ward, department, area of research, service or group of patients. The Charity Team, Trustees and designated Special Fund Advisors identify ways to utilise the individual funds to make a real difference to the Trust’s work in line with donors’ wishes. Click here to find out more.
